During our speech session today with Mrs. Hauman, Mrs. Lindsey’s class worked on fine motor skills and on the words “love” and “like”. We made a Valentine’s Day crafts to give to those we love the most!

A big thank you to Mr. Shifflett from 3RC Services for taking time from his day and being a guest speaker to our 5th Grade ACE class for the engineering unit. Students have studied angles, types of bridges, and the engineering process while taking part in team mock construction company these past weeks. Mr. Shifflett came in to help discuss the importance of plans, team members, materials/budget, safety, and a schedule for a company. Students were able to tie in their group experiences in the discussion and reflect on how their projects may have changed if more attention was placed on certain aspects within their team company (ie: blueprints or the budgeting of materials).
Students were excited to study real blueprints and learn that they are no longer blue along with the angles they too used in their blueprints. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to reflect on their progress so far and connect it with a real-world experience.
Mrs. Brooks-Smith and the students truly appreciate this experience! #atthepark

Mr. Jennings and Mrs. Deal’s reading class has started reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone #atthepark to work on fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary skills.

Ms. Feld’s class used candy conversation hearts to practice probability! Students had to count their hearts by color, randomly select one, and determine the probability. Then students had to eat some to figure out how their probability would change! Candy always makes math sweeter! #atthepark

Ms. Prentice's kids are playing "Coin Bingo," in stations, during 2nd grade Math instruction. Students earned rewards by identifying the described coins and their worth. #atthepark

One of Ms. Daniels' classes uses a playdoh activity to practice prepositions. The students had fun building vocabulary and following directions. Students also worked on complex syntax and spatial concepts. Looks like fun! #atthepark

Sycamore Park recently celebrated World Read Aloud Day! Panthers love hearing great books #atthepark!

Ms. Hackley's class enjoyed some "ants on a log" this past Friday! #atthepark

Mrs. Kuykendall’s 3rd grade Reading class enjoyed their Friday treat of hot chocolate with whipped cream in #Starbucks cups!
Thank you so much to @Starbucks for providing the fancy cups and lids. You helped make my students Friday experience a little more fun! #atthepark

Ms. Groene's Kindergarten class did a fun stem activity based on the book “The Mitten” by Jan Brett. The students made a habitat that would fit the animals from the story. #atthepark

In Ms. Timbrook's 4th grade art classes, students have been working hard on their observational drawing skills. They practice breaking an object into shapes, drawing lightly, and shading. Next art class they will be drawing an animal eye of their choice. #atthepark

Did you know that today, Wednesday, February 1st is World Read Aloud Day? We hope you take some time today to Read Aloud with your kids! If you do, post some pictures and tag them with #spesreads!

Ms. Hoffman's students participated in some great 100th day activities recently! Looks like fun! #atthepark

Mrs. Lewellyn's reading class has been working on identifying sensory words. In this lesson, students were given popcorn and had to come up with words using their 5 senses (touch, smell, sight, hearing, and taste).

Mrs. Kuykendall’s class enjoyed practicing multiplication facts while using Ozobots. #atthepark

Mrs. Berrios’ 2nd grade class is having fun learning about Native American culture. Here they are making their own tipi models. We learned that the Lakota were a nomadic tribe that survived by following the buffalo herds. This is why having a home that was easy to pack up and move was so important! #atthepark

Last week in Miss Nellis' math class, her 1st grade students continued to learn about counting to 120. Students strategize by making groups of tens and ones to find their total number. They also recorded their findings on a counting collections recording sheet. After reviewing counting, the 1st grade students were definitely ready for the 100th day of school!

Mrs. Hauman’s students are working on winter vocabulary. Now we need snowy weather to practice our words! #atthepark.
