We appreciate the love they show our kids, and our students enjoy having them there! In this photo, Mr. Steven Rice reads a bilingual book to a group of ELL students in Miss Dodson’s class. 💕 #atthepark

Before the reading of our weekly story, students practiced some pre-reading and test-taking strategies. With their partners, students completed a "walk-through" to help them set a purpose for reading. After looking at the genre of the story and the title, students flipped through the story while keeping an eye out for illustrations and other text features that may give them some insight to what the story is about. After looking through and discussing what they noticed with their partners, students wrote their ideas, and we took turns sharing those ideas with the class.

A big thank you to Mr. Shifflett from 3RC Services for taking time from his day and being a guest speaker to our 5th Grade ACE class for the engineering unit. Students have studied angles, types of bridges, and the engineering process while taking part in team mock construction company these past weeks. Mr. Shifflett came in to help discuss the importance of plans, team members, materials/budget, safety, and a schedule for a company. Students were able to tie in their group experiences in the discussion and reflect on how their projects may have changed if more attention was placed on certain aspects within their team company (ie: blueprints or the budgeting of materials). Students were excited to study real blueprints and learn that they are no longer blue along with the angles they too used in their blueprints. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to reflect on their progress so far and connect it with a real-world experience. Mrs. Brooks-Smith and the students truly appreciate this experience! #atthepark

Ms. Feld’s class used candy conversation hearts to practice probability! Students had to count their hearts by color, randomly select one, and determine the probability. Then students had to eat some to figure out how their probability would change! Candy always makes math sweeter! #atthepark
